Ive James Adams faces multiple felony charges after allegedly firing a handgun at two juveniles who had just exited a Milwaukee County Transit System bus. Advertisement Altercation on a crowded bus Monday afternoon, multiple juveniles boarded the county bus at the Riverside High School stop. Adams then boarded the full bus at the Richards Street stop without paying the fare. As the bus traveled past North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, a commotion broke out in the back of the vehicle. Children on the bus were heard yelling at someone to "get off," the complaint says. When the bus reached the North 12th Street stop, a juvenile wearing a gray hoodie and a younger individual stepped off. Adams followed them out, reached into his coat for a handgun and fired at the fleeing juveniles. At approximately 3:55 p.m., ShotSpotter recorded two rounds fired in the area of 1125 W. Burleigh St. Surveillance video captured the verbal altercation and the subsequent gunfire. No injuries were reported, and the individuals who were fired upon have not been identified. Foot pursuit and arrest According to the complaint, transit security guards monitored the suspect from a distance until Milwaukee police arrived. Officers located Adams clutching a large black coat near North 16th and West Hadley streets. When approached, he fled on foot and ignored commands to stop. During the chase, officers saw Adams throw a black 9 mm pistol into a field at 2969 N. 20th St. Police took him into custody in a rear alley shortly after. Investigators later recovered a spent shell casing in front of 3105 N. 11th St. that matched an unfired cartridge found in the discarded weapon's magazine. Additional narcotics charges A search of Adams revealed a clear plastic bag containing eight smaller bags of a white, rock-like substance. The material tested positive for cocaine. Officers also found a digital scale in his jacket pocket, the criminal complaint says. Adams is charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine. Court records show he has a prior felony conviction for strangulation and suffocation from 2017. The investigation remains ongoing.
